I don't know about you, but when my kids were younger, it was easy to get them excited about the simplest things. Seriously I could take a rock and say, "Hey, have you seen this magic rock I just found!?" πŸ‘€

We tell them it's magical, and their imagination takes flight, fueling their motivation. Give them a bunch more rocks with names and powers and they'll be there for hours.

Here's the thing, as we grow older, it's easy to lose this ability to get excited about simple things - we stop playing with rocks, metaphorically. πŸͺ¨πŸŒŸ

In my line of work, I see people struggle with motivation - a lot.

πŸ”„πŸ’‘ You've probably heard of intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation is driven by external rewards – for instance, promising your child a toy in return for good behaviour. On the other hand, intrinsic motivation is fueled by inner desires and passions, such as a love for tennis.

The truth is all motivation is intrinsic in some way; motivation comes from within.

If you want to increase your levels of motivation, learn how to re-engage your imagination, just as you did when you were a kid.

If you can find what is interesting or exciting in the activity you're taking part in, you energy is going to increase and motivation is all about energy. When motivated your energy is high, when de-motivated you're energy plummets.

Mastering control over your energy empowers you to take charge of your motivation.πŸ’‘πŸ”‹

πŸ”„πŸ’ͺ The key is to learn how to amplify your energy at any given moment, enabling you to create the motivation needed for any task or event.

There are three ways to do this.

1️⃣ Manage your breath

2️⃣ Move your body

3️⃣ Activate your imagination

If you can't find anything exciting or valuable in the task, start with 1 and 2 but practice 3 - use your imagination! Because your brain might initially reject the idea that there's something great about responding to a heap of emails.πŸŒ¬οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸŽˆπŸ”„ But this is where playfulness comes in. Get playful! Use your imagination. The more you fill your tasks with a sense of play and imagination, the easier it becomes to get motivated.
